As general rule, English verbs take " s" at the third personal of singular in simple present tense.
Examples: To come: He comes today.
However, verbs end by: O, SH, CH, SS, X take " es" at the third personal of singular (Have a look on the chart here above).
Other verbs of the form Consonant + y change y into i and then take es, ~(have a look on the chart here above) .
The case of verbs of the form Vowel + y follows the general rule: to play, we say, He plays, to buy, He buys.
